Today I want you to introduce to typical Berlin food. Currywurst, Boulette and Döner are the most popular dishes.You will find them almost everywhere in town. But what are these specialties exactly and what are they made of?   Currywurst, Boulette and Döner We Berliners love especially currywurst, a sausage in a sauce consisting of ketchup and curry. Other typical sausages are bockwurst and bratwurst (fried sausage). Another typical dish is boulette.This meat dish is only called boulette in Berlin. In other parts of Germany it is called frikadelle. Kofta is the Middle East version. I recommend you to try a Döner. It is a Turkish dish, that was invented in Berlin . Getting around in Berlin is easy. We have got a train service, (the S-Bahn), busses, trams and an underground train service. With them you can reach the suburbs of Berlin and some places in  Brandenburg.  Bus stop at Mehringdamm  On the  BVG  website you can plan your own routes.  Busses normally run every 10 minutes, sometimes every 20 minutes. During the night special busses on special routes (the N busses) run from 23.00 till 7.00 in the morning. During the week underground trains run from 4.00-1.00 in the morning, about every 5-10 minutes. During the weekend they run 24 hours.   By train Berlin has an extensive network of stations for long-distance, local and regional services. The largest station is Hauptbahnhof, (Central Station) which opened in 2006. There is also a tourist information center . Berlin is a shopping paradise! The capital offers something for every budget, from shops where you can buy things for one Euro, to expensive and exclusive shops like Quartier 206 on Friedrichstrasse or the French department store Lafayette .   Of course, the  KaDeWe  and Kurfürstendamm are a must for shopaholics.   Apart from the KaDeWe, there are other stores in Berlin. I recommend you to visit the following department stores: Galeria Kaufhof at Alexanderplatz, Karstadt at Kurfürstendamm and Hermannplatz.   Shops are generally open  from Monday - Friday  until  20:00. Some large supermarkets close at 22:00. You can buy food and drinks at food stores called Spätkauf, also called Späti. They are usually open late at night and on Sundays. Charlottenburg Palace The impressive Charlottenburg Palace gave a whole district its name. It all began in 1695, when a palace was build in Lietzow, a village outside Berlin, for the Prussian queen Sophie Charlotte. After Sophie Charlotte`s death in 1705 Lietzow was renamed Charlottenburg.
