Berlin's Top Sights

Did you know that Berlin consists partly of villages that origins date back long ago? Today they are part of the metropolitis and you will find hardly traces of them.They gradually merged into the present capital, hustling and bustling with life and traffic. However, you can still find the remains of the former village like a church, a village green and sometimes a pond. Rixdorf is one of Neuköllns gems. If you leave the underground station Karl-Marx-Straße (U7) just walk along Herrenhuter or Uthmann Straße (note the beautiful old houses)  you will be there in no time. Here you are in a quaint village rather than a city. Neukölln was called Rixdorf, before it got its name in 1912.  On many houses in Berlin you will find memorial plaques.The inscription is usually in German. They remind of famous people, who worked or lived here. Some remind of famous places.  Here are a few examples: This memorial plaque reminds of Konrad Zuse, who built and developed from 1936-1944 the computers Z1 - Z4. The Z3 was the first computer, that really worked, it was launched in 1941. To discover Berlin by bus is fun. Berlin’s busses are yellow and many of them are double deckers. Especially a ride on the number 100  bus is fun, cheap and comfortable. But what is so special about this bus?    You just have to pay the fare for a normal ticket, then you may hop on and off where ever you like, but check how long your ticket is valid! When the wall divided Berlin, the Wannse and the Havel  were one of the few opportunities for the West Berliners to relax within their home town. 26 years after the reunification, this stretch of water is still the ideal place to unwind after a hectic time. Getting around in Berlin is easy. We have got a train service, (the S-Bahn), busses, trams and an underground train service. With them you can reach the suburbs of Berlin and some places in  Brandenburg.  Bus stop at Mehringdamm  On the  BVG  website you can plan your own routes.  Busses normally run every 10 minutes, sometimes every 20 minutes. During the night special busses on special routes (the N busses) run from 23.00 till 7.00 in the morning. During the week underground trains run from 4.00-1.00 in the morning, about every 5-10 minutes. During the weekend they run 24 hours.
