A ride on the tram 68

A ride on the Tram 68 is very special. The most beautiful tram ride in Berlin takes you from S-Bahn station Köpenick to Schmöckwitz. During this trip, you quickly forget the frantic city life.

The town hall, the castle and the castle garden
The ride on the tram 68 begins at Köpenick S-Bahn station. The first attraction is the town hall, dating back to 1904. In front is a statue of the Captain of Köpenick. Almost Berliner knows the story of the cobbler Wilhelm Voigt.

The next interesting stop is the island with its baroque castle.
The island is connected by a bridge over the moat to the mainland. Köpenick is much older than Berlin. Already in the early Middle Ages settled on the island Slavic tribes. The legendary Prince Jaxo of Köepenick lived around 1157 in a simple building here. Today's three-storey baroque castle was built from 1677. Inside is a museum of  decorative arts. The chapel (1685) is the work of Johann Arnold Nehring, who was the most famous architect in Berlin at that time. The castle garden has very old and rare trees. How about a little refreshment at the café before the trip continues?

Grünau, Karolinenhof and Alt-Schmöckwitz
Now we reach Spindlersfield. Wilhelm Spindler founded 1873 a large laundry here. Köpenick became known as the "laundry" of Berlin. After leavng the S-Bahnhof Grünau behind, the tram 68 rolls comfortably through woodland. Grünau is known for its regatta course, which is one of the oldest in Germany. Next stop is the lido. Here you can relax on a hot day. We continue our journey through the suburb Karolinenhof. The tram 68 reaches now Adlergestell - Berlin's longest street. In Alt-Schmöckwitz is the final stop of the tram 68, but that does not mean that it is the end of our trip. There are infinite possibilities to explore the former fishing village and its surroundings - like the Seddinsee.

Alt-Schmöckwitz, where the ride on the tram 68 ends.
